About Us

MISSION & VISION

The mission and vision of the Vision Riders chapter of the Christian Motorcyclists Association (CMA) is to be a source of help and assistance to others in the biking community. By combining our love of motorcycling with our Christian faith, we believe that we can help others physically, mechanically and spiritually.

We are a Christian association that believes in evangelizing to those around us about the love of Jesus Christ and His offering of forgiveness to each and every sinner. We seek to make this truth known in being an example to the world in our speech, actions and the way in which we conduct ourselves.

As the CMA vision states: We are to change the world, one heart at a time.

OUR HISTORY (by the late Richard Durham)

The start of Vision Riders dates back to 2006. I met Matt Wooley on a secular ride known as the Snake Pit. He handed me what I noticed to be a Christian Motorcyclist Association (CMA) business card. We talked a little about it, and I got to thinking that it would be good to have a group of Christians to ride with instead of worrying about alcohol and drugs, among other things that other rides had. Dan Hayes and I discussed it some and contacted James Collins out in western Kentucky. My wife Anita and I even visited the State Rally one Saturday in Bowling Green and were touched by the unusual sight of biker type guys worshipping and praising the Lord. One of the last emails I received from James was that he felt very good about the changes of starting a chapter in Campbellsville. But, things didn’t develop as I had expected and the idea just sat there.

At the end of 2006, the Lord seemed to be placing on my heart again the idea of forming a chapter. Dan and I discussed it again and prayed about it. We both felt that it was time to do something. While we were looking for a Christian riding group, God had now pressed on our hearts that this was to be a ministry. Once we came to this realization, things began to fall into place.

We reached out to James Collins again, who put us in touch with Sam Polston in Stanford, who was the area representative for the CMA. In April of 2007, Sam and Barb came over to the tech center at Campbellsville University for a meeting we had promoted for anyone interested in forming a local chapter.

Some of our existing members attended the meeting as we discussed forming a chapter. We decided to have our first forming meeting at Dan’s place of business the following May. As time came for the meeting, it was just myself, Dan, Sam and Barb. It was pretty discouraging at that point. Suddenly, the door opened and a guy with long hair and a funny mustache walked in and wanted to know if he was in the right place for the CMA meeting. This was the first time I had met Mitch Collings. Our group made arrangements to meet the second Thursday of each month at the bowling alley.

It was either during our meeting in June or July that we attempted to come up with a chapter name. I had come up with a few ideas and had drawn up some logos. We had a new couple at our meeting and kicked around ideas for a chapter name. Duane Orange came up with the name Vision Riders. At first I didn’t think much of it, but the more we discussed it the better the name sounded and it eventually became the name of our chapter.

Our first chapter meeting was held on May 2007. Over the summer of 2007, we slowly but surely saw growth in our chapter. At times we felt things were just not going to fly. However (praise God!) we have seen some great growth since our second season. We have grown in numbers and God has sent us the right people for the job at hand.
